History

Cogent Turbine Solutions was founded in 2016 in Fort St. John, BC, the heart of Canada’s LNG industry with the aim to provide front-to-back service and consulting to customer’s turbine programs. Backing the company is William Burchell’s 20+ years working with turbines in many stages of their operating life. From repair and maintenance, to supporting turbine programs, ensuring that equipment can continue at the highest efficiency levels. We understand that a successful investment in turbine technology requires skilled and thoughtful work in many areas, and are happy to provide such service to customers, as we’ve done in the past. We stand by the belief that to achieve ultimate performance and reliability, extreme attention to detail and experience must be exercised.

2016 – Present: Principal Cogent Turbine Solutions Ltd.

  • All levels of technical and labour service involved in the commissioning, troubleshooting repair and overhaul of gas turbines.

  • Contract estimation, negotiation, development and amendment for maintenance, repair and overhaul of gas turbines.

1994 – 2016: Proprietor Burchell Enterprises

  • Subcontract operation and maintenance of gas turbine test cell, overhaul of gas turbines and auxiliary equipment.

  • Principal onsite business and technical representative for S&S Turbine Ltd. group of companies.

  • Service business, primarily focused on maintenance and construction opportunities in the local petroleum industry.

2006: Senior Mechanical / Control Technologist Duke Energy Gas Transmission

  • Audit of Transmission and Gathering Compressor Station control panel programming for regulatory compliance.

  • Supervision of small capital maintenance projects within Midstream assets.

  • Technical support and on-site supervision of Industrial Gas Turbine maintenance and overhaul service provider.

  • Vibration analysis and root cause recommendation.

2000 – 2005: Measurement Technician Westcoast Energy Inc.

  • Audit of custody transfer facilities. Audit of raw gas and liquid hydro carbon receipt points. Identification of non-compliant receipt points.

  • Commission, maintain, verify and troubleshoot gas measurement and gas analytical equipment.

1996 – 2000: Rotating Equipment Technician Westcoast Energy Inc.

  • Rotor assembly and dynamic balance. Vibration analysis and root cause determination of aero derivative and light frame industrial gas turbines.

  • Principal on site supervision of prime mover installation, commissioning, troubleshooting.

1991 – 1996: Instrumentation Technician Westcoast Energy Inc.
• Install, commission and maintenance of pipeline and compression control and safety systems.
• Maintenance of generators and power distribution
